What is aquamation and how does it work?

Aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis or water cremation, is a gentle, eco-friendly form of cremation that uses water and alkali in place of flame. The process uses water, gentle temperature, and alkalinity to accelerate the natural breakdown that occurs after passing. Your pet is placed in a stainless-steel chamber with warm water and an alkaline solution, where the soft tissues return to their natural components over several hours. What remains is the bone mineral, which is dried, prepared into a fine white powder, and returned to you as your pet's ashes.

How much does aquamation cost?

Accepted Answer

Our pricing is transparent and weight-based. We offer three service tiers: Communal Aquamation (from $60), Individually-Partitioned Aquamation (from $115), and Private Aquamation (from $225). Is there a minimum pet size? Do you accept birds, hamsters, and reptiles?

Accepted Answer

There is no minimum size. Birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, reptiles, and other small pets receive the same care and are priced in the same weight brackets as dogs and cats. Any pet up to 2 lbs is priced in the lowest bracket, whatever it weighs. Ashes are returned in Partitioned and Private care at every size; a very small pet returns a small amount. The paw or nose print is taken whenever your pet’s size allows. If your bird wears a leg band you would like to keep, tell us during arrangement so it can be removed beforehand and returned to you.

How can I track my pet throughout the process?

Accepted Answer

Every pet receives a unique QR code tag at pickup that stays with them throughout the entire journey. You can scan this code or use your case ID online to see real-time updates: pickup confirmation, arrival at facility, processing status, and delivery updates. We also send email notifications at key milestones for complete peace of mind.
